DESIGN IS DESIGN IS DESIGN

About Me

I believe great design is delightful, helpful, and compassionate. I’m a UI/UX Designer with 4 years of Product Design experience and about 8 years of part-time freelance and online marketing design experience. My portfolio spans diverse industries: from E-commerce and Healthcare to Tech and Government. I bring a wealth of knowledge to craft digital experiences that resonate with your audience. I’m passionate about connecting users to the right product at the right time. I’ve designed innovative digital solutions for large corporations that are measurably impactful and delightful. I’m comfortable managing stakeholder expectations while socializing excellent design because I transitioned from consulting and have juggled priorities individually and on a team. As a partner in your success, I'll translate your vision into a digital reality that captivates, engages, and converts.

I ask thoughtful questions, lean into details, & proactively offer solutions.

During my undergraduate at Baylor University, I was a Digital Strategist for a small marketing company and did freelance web design and online marketing.

It has always been an absolute joy for me to analyze, serve, and design with "humans in mind.” I wanted to share a few stories that demonstrate the themes I have noticed in my career and education: empathy, attention to detail and aesthetics, critical thinking, and psychology.

My Story in Themes

Critical Thinking

Being on the business side of technology and product development and going through a rigorous curriculum in college has taught me how to learn, explore, and ultimately, use critical thinking in my day-to-day work environment. I had to push myself to think about constraints and edge cases. I’ve learned a few key lessons that apply directly to UX Design:

A) Never assume the problem I’m asked to solve is actually the root issue.

B) Personas created by business stakeholders typically contain important assumptions to validate with real users.

C) It’s impossible to design without constraints, so think of constraints as edge cases, and when discussing features with business and engineering, a designer’s perspective should be the deciding factor in the compromise balance between beauty and functionality.

Psychology

I started building a foundation and learning about design psychology in college through reading and trial and error via freelance projects. After college, in my previous roles as a Project Manager and Business Analyst, gathering requirements meant conducting interviews and connecting the dots between how to build features and why it’s important to build them. That experience not only makes it easier for me to function as a liaison between business stakeholders and design, it encourages me to think from the user’s perspective. Those roles prompted me to read The Design of Everyday Things, The Non-Designer’s Design Book, and Design for Real Life before I realized I wanted to transition to the XD world.

Empathy

The ability to connect with users is critical in UX Design, and my interests and life experiences have helped shape me into a more empathetic person today.

I’m currently a certified Foster Parent, and before that, I was a CASA (or GAL). As a CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocate, I mentored and advocated for kids in the juvenile justice system for over two years. From then to now as a Foster Parent, I have to put myself in the shoes of many different stakeholders every week and frequently communicate on my kid’s behalf. I have to be mindful about what support they still need and where they are in their life journey.

In college and high school, I was always drawn to learn about poverty alleviation, foster care, and social justice. I volunteered at social enterprises in Waco and London and was an officer for the Baylor chapter of the International Justice Mission.

I’ve also been a voracious reader since I was a kid and loved imagining myself in the stories I read.

Appreciation for Aesthetics

I study and practice using visual design principles in and outside of work.

In college, I funded my study abroad, many late-night Torchy’s trips, and my own car through freelance online marketing and web design. This led me to design websites, social media profiles, and print materials for a variety of small businesses.

I’ve never considered myself a perfectionist, but I couldn’t even let a Finance presentation be submitted without cleaning up the details and checking for consistency in whatever story we were presenting. This habit continued in my career as a Management Consultant, and I quickly became known as someone who my team could depend on to edit and add visuals to last-minute Business Development Proposals.

I have so much fun diving into details and being skeptical about typography, layout, imagery, etc. In my free time, I enjoy watercolor and photography.
